abstract = {Cortinarius peraurantiacus is a truffle-like fungus associated with Leptospermum. However, in the protologue a second, morphologically different but closely related form is mentioned, found in association with Nothofagus s.l. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequences, indicates that both the Leptospermum- and Nothofagus-associated forms are nested within Cortinarius, but that the two forms are distinct species. Cortinarius peraurantiacus is related to the Australian species Protoglossum luteum, and the southern beech-associated form is sister an undescribed hypogeous Cortinarius from Tasmania and these are related to the New Zealand native Cortinarius dulciolens. Cortinarius beeverorum sp. nov. is described and illustrated, to accommodate the southern beech-associated form.}
