Abstract
A new monoverticillate Penicillium species (subgenus Aspergilloides Dierckx), P. viticola was isolated from a grape cultivated in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Morphologically, P. viticola is characterized by the production slightly roughened conidia, slightly roughened stipes and rapid growth on 25% glycerol nitrate agar (G25N). This species is phylogenetically close to P. angulare S.W. Peterson, E.M. Bayer & Wicklow, but differs with respect to colonial characteristics and conidia and penicilli morphology.
