Abstract
Globisporangium splendens is a major plant pathogenic oomycete distributing worldwide. Based on nucleotide sequences of the rDNA ITS region and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase 1 and 2 gene, a taxonomic group was segregated from G. splendens. This new taxonomic group had no evident difference compared to G. splendens on morphology and virulence on host plants. However, the phylogenetic variation was comparable as the species-level in the molecular taxonomy. In order to avoid confusion regarding the molecular identification, we taxonomically characterized the phylogenetic group and proposed it as a new species named G. cryptosplendens.
