Abstract

A new endophytic species of Lasiodiplodia (L. cashewspora) is described and illustrated from Aquilaria crassna in Laos. It is morphologically characterized by stromatic conidiomata, filiform paraphyses, and two types of conidia: type I: ellipsoid to ovoid, turning pale brown with a median distoseptum and longitudinal striations when mature; type II: cashew-shaped or irregular-shaped, with granular content, round at apex, becoming pigmented with 1?2-septate when aged, rarely form longitudinal striations. Its relationships with other species of Lasiodiplodia are discussed based on morphology and ITS, tef1-a, TUB and RPB2 rDNA sequences comparisons. Distoseptate conidia were first reported in Lasiodiplodia.
