Abstract

Two new Erysiphe species, viz. Erysiphe actinidicola and E. limonicola were described on Actinidia polygama and Limonium tetragonum, respectively, based on morphological and molecular data. Erysiphe actinidicola is distinguished from E. actinidiae var. actinidiae by having rather irregularly shaped geniculate-sinuous chasmothecial appendages, irregularly to dichotomously branched, below or apically, differences in size of chasmothecia, the number of asci per chasmothecium and length of appendages. Molecular analyses indicated that this species forms a clade separated from E. actinidiae var. actinidiae. Epitype was proposed for E. actinidiae var. actinidiae with ex-epitype sequences. Based on the DNA sequence differences in the 28S rDNA and ITS region as well as the morphological differences in the length of conidiophores, the fungus on L. tetragonum was described as a new species, E. limonicola.
