Abstract
Microstoma longipileum sp. nov. collected from two locations in Japan was described. It is characterized by long apothecial hairs and salmon pink discs. Molecular phylogenetic analyses supported the novelty of this fungus. We additionally reported the overlooked morphology of hyphal mats and phialides and conidia produced by ascospores for the species. By addition of M. longipileum, now 6 species of Microstoma are documented in Japan.
