Abstract
In this study, Nectria types and the Nectria-like type of Nectriella rufofusca of Pier Andrea Saccardo?s fungarium were investigated with both a morphological and a molecular approach based on a MiSeq technology. ITS1 and ITS2 sequences were successfully obtained from 19 Nectria sensu Saccardo types, representing 17 different species, and from Nectriella rufofusca type specimen; while for Nectria ambigua, N. radians and N. tjibodensis only the ITS1 was recovered. Our analyses suggest that there is a need to introduce new nomenclatural combinations for six species and new synonymies for seven species. For the remaining eight species the current systematic position was confirmed. This is the first time that these over one century specimens are involved in a molecular study providing new important DNA sequences from precious fungal type material.
