Abstract
Specimens of a new truffle were collected from Acacia saligna stands in Tunisian semi arid lands. The fruitbodies show white to cream ascomata with chambered gleba (solid ptychothecium), ornamented ascospores and cylindrical paraphyses. Based on these morphological features, the fungus seems closely related to Reddellomyces parvulosporus, R. westraliensis and R. donkii excepting the dimension of its ascospores. Molecular analysis based on the nuclear large ribosomal subunit (28S rDNA) and nuc rDNA ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS barcode) and sequences confirm its affiliation to the genus Reddellomyces. Combination of molecular data and morphological characteristics of these organisms warrants designation of a novel species within the genus Reddellomyces.
