Abstract

Lactifluus is an ectomycorrhizal genus which occurs predominantly in the tropics. In Brazil, the knowledge about this genus diversity is restricted to the Amazon, Atlantic Forest and Caatinga biomes, where several species have been described in the subgenera Lactariopsis and Pseudogymnocarpi. In contrast, subgenus Gymnocarpi appears poorly diverse in Brazil, until now only being represented by Lf. panuoides from Amazon. Based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis, three novel species of Lf. subg. Gymnocarpi are described from Brazil: Lf. guttulatus, Lf. piperogalactus and Lf. spathuliformis. Lactifluus lepus, recently described from Caribbean, is reported from Amazonian tropical forest. A combined dataset of nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) was analyzed and based on its phylogenetic hypothesis and morphological data, Lf. sect. Piperogalacti is described and the pleurotoid sect. Panuoidei is emended.
