A previous study of sapstain fungi associated with fourteen insect species colonizing Pinus radiata in northern Spain yielded nineteen fungal species including three common pathogens and four important agents of sapstain of lumber. Three new species of Ophiostoma were recognized in the present study based on comparisons of sequence data for three gene regions as well as morphological characteristics.
