abstract = {Taxonomic position of three intraspecific groups of Umbelopsis ramanniana in the genus Umbelopsis was analyzed based on the nucleotide sequences of nLSU rDNA 28S D1 - D2 domain. The examined members of the genus Umbelopsis were resolved into major two clades, Clade I and II. The intraspecific groups of U. ramanniana constituted Clade II with U. westeae, U. swartii, U. autotrophica, U. gibberisopra, U. angularis, and U. fusiformis. In this major clade, the intraspecific groups of U. ramanniana split into three polyphyletic subclades. This fact suggests that Umbelopsis ramanniana @is an assemblage of several species that genetically distinct. Interestingly, in spite of diverse sporangiospore shapes of the member of Clade II, genetic variation among them was small. Their flexible sporangia membranes would make possible to develop various shapes of the sporangiospores.}
