abstract = {A new species, Hypoxylon puerense, is proposed based on morphological and molecular characters. The species is characterized by its, applanate stromata with fulvous to rust color, perithecia, subglobose to obovoid, asci without apical apparatus, not bluing in Melzer?s iodine reagent, perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with conspicuous coil-like ornamentation. The differences between the new species and some morphologically similar Hypoxylon species are discussed. Phylogenetic analyses of ITS gene region demonstrated that H. puerense formed a single lineage and was sister to H. ticinense with strong statistical supports (100% BS, 100% BT, 1.00 BPP).}
