abstract = {Abstract: Opportunistic collecting of ascomycetes in Lesser Khingan Mountains of China led to the discovery of two species of Venturia from Salix spp, one of which is described and illustrated as a new species-V. fuliginosa. Venturia fuliginosa forms a soot-like phenotype on the leaf surface of the host, and differs from known species of Venturia in having fusiform, subcylindrical, sometimes obpyriform and mostly aseptate conidia. Phylogenetic inferences based on the combined sequences of the 28S and ITS rRNA gene repeat from nuc rDNA indicate that the new species is closely related to CBS 470.61 (a strain named V. chlorospora from Salix daphnoides in 1958 in France). Venturia catenospora is reported for the first time in China. }
