abstract = { Combined molecular and morphological analysis shows that a number of small-flowered Caribbean Asclepiadoideae of hitherto uncertain affiliation form two independent lineages in the Gonolobinae, and not as previously assumed, in the Metastelmatinae. The genus Tylodontia, based on T. cubensis, is a small genus restricted to Cuba. Besides T. cubensis, the genus comprises T. fusculum, a species formerly assigned to Metastelma; T. urceolata, a species formerly assigned to Astephanus, and a new species, T. stipitata. The second lineage is described as the new genus Anemotrochus and comprises the widespread Carribean Anemotrochus eggersii, a plant formerly placed in Metastelma. Anemotrochus comprises three species, one of them, A. yamanigueyensis, discovered by the authors in Eastern Cuba, is described as new. The inclusion of the third species, A. viridivenius from Hispaniola, a plant formerly ascribed to Matelea, is supported by both morphological and molecular data. Tylodontia and Anemotrochus are members of the wider Matelea alliance, but form lineages independent from each other and from Matelea.}
