abstract = {Oxidative stress which results from the imbalance between pro-oxidant and the antioxidant concentration in the body, have been implicated as mediators of many diseases, including cancer, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular diseases. Free radicals carry an unpaired electron and is extremely reactive and capable of engaging a rapid chain reaction that destabilizes other molecules. Hence, natural antioxidants have gained momentum among consumers and researchers because, its frequent intake reduces the cause of damage to the organs by free radicals. Cancer is currently accountable for 25% of all deaths in the developed world. In this study, a total of 55 fungal strains were isolated from terrestrial soil samples. Chosen fungal strains were selected for the extraction of secondary metabolite and phytochemical analysis. The antioxidant and anticancer potentials of three fungal strains DMTMGK004, DMTMGK008 and DMTMGK010 were analysed. Further analysis were made on the partial ITS region of the strains and phylogenetic trees were constructed. The findings of the study showed that ethyl acetate extracts of Aspergillus terreus strains DMTMGK004, DMTMGK008 and Talaromyces marneffei DMTMGK010 have demonstrated anti-proliferative action against AGS gastric cancer cells.}
