abstract = {Dematiopleospora fusiformis sp. nov. was isolated from a decaying upright stem of Achillea sp. (Asteraceae) collected from the Rostov Region of Russia. The new taxon shares with D. mariae, the type species of Dematiopleospora, features such as unilocular ascomata, with brown setae in the ostiole, cylindrical asci and fusiform, muriform ascospores. However, D. fusiformis differs morphologically from the type and other species in Dematiopleospora in having larger asci and ascospores. Phylogenetic analyses of combined ITS, SSU and LSU sequence data also placed this species in Dematiopleospora. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses revealed it to group closely with Dematiopleospora mariae and D. cirsii, but to be a distinct species. The new species, is introduced with a comprehensive description and microphotographs and is compared with the most similar species in the genus.}
