abstract = {Orleanesia includes about 11 species of epiphytic, mostly Amazonian Orchidaceae. Its phylogenetic relationships are poorly known. We revised Orleanesia and performed molecular and morphological phylogenetic analyses with the purpose of clarifying the interspecific relations within the genus and assessing its position within Laeliinae. We used nrITS and plastidial matK regions, in addition to morphological characters, to estimate relationships. Orleanesia is monophyletic with Caularthron Raf. as its sister group. Orleanesia includes two clades, both highly supported. Specimens from 14 herbaria were examined in addition to an analysis of digitized materials from another 13 herbaria. Two lectotypifications and three new synonyms were proposed for the genus, and the final number of species was reduced to six. Although none of the species of Orleanesia were considered endangered, it is clear that their populations are threatened by deforestation and habitat reduction.}
