abstract = {The genus Gloxinia (Gesneriaceae, Gesnerieae, Gloxiniinae) comprises four species distributed from Nicaragua to Argentina. Gloxinia major has been problematic to place taxonomically due to the morphological similarity with Gloxinia erinoides. Here, we present a molecular phylogenetic study and morphological that allowed us to demonstrate that Gloxinia major is currently recognized as a separate species from G. erinoides, this species is described, illustrated, and compared to morphologically similar species. Also data on its distribution, habitat, and taxonomic treatment are provided.}
