abstract = {Piptospatha is a genus of 15 species which are distributed from Peninsular Malaysia (with one species, P. perakensis extending to southern Thailand) to Borneo. This study analyse the phylogenetic signal among Piptospatha species using nrITS and plastid matK regions. Eleven accessions representing 10 taxa (including the Type, P. insignis) of Piptospatha are included. Both gene regions are combined into a dataset of 2547 base pairs and analysed using maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. The analyses have conclusively established the separation of ex-Bornean taxa from the Bornean Piptospatha. Here, we proposed to transfer P. ridleyi, P. perakensis and P. teijsmannii into a new genus, Kiewia S.Y.Wong. Flowering mechanism, pollination strategy, and fruitset of both Kiewia species are also presented.}
