abstract = {A basidiomycete fungus from Vietnam grown in a moist chamber on bark as substrate was identified as Hyphobasidiofera malaysiana. The transfer of this fungus in culture initiated new possibilities for investigations, namely cultural morphology, LSU and ITS molecular phylogenies, life cycle karyology, and mating experiments. The obtained data revealed for this species a generic identity to Rogersiomyces, supported by results of a morphological analysis. The new combination Rogersiomyces malaysianus is proposed. Molecular studies revealed close relationships of Rogersiomyces, Sistotrema s. lat. (including Gloeocystidium sernanderi) and Hydnum s. str. (Cantharellales, Agaricomycetes). It was revealed that a nuclear division into basidium in R. malaysianus is carried out on stichobasidiate manner, whereas reproductive behavior of the fungus was tested as amphithallic. Morphological features and life cycle of this unusual sistotremoid fungus are discussed. It was concluded that microcyclic reproductive strategy of this fungus, its ephemerous fructifications and statismosporic basidia of low recombinative potential represent an adaptation to irregular, but plentiful moistening within monsoonal climates.}
